DANCEHALL STAR IS FREE AND CLEAR TO PERFORM IN AMERICA AFTER 18-MONTH BATTLE
Dancehall's 'Star Bwoy' Mavado is free and clear to perform in New York City this Labor Day weekend. Making his first U.S. performance in over a year, Mavado will be headlining the inaugural Reggae Rhythm & Blues concert at Roy Wilkins Park in Queens on September 4th. Mavado, who after 18 months has finally resolved the issues that caused his U.S. work visa to be revoked, will take the Reggae Rhythm & Blues stage alongside ten-time Grammy award winner Kenny 'Babyface' Edmonds.

The 'King of the Dancehall' Beenie Man, who was also one of many Dancehall artists whose visa was yanked, is also cleared to appear at Reggae Rhythm & Blues and receive an honor for his lifetime achievements in music.

It is natural that Mavado choose the Big Apple for his first American show; he first garnered international recognition on NYC urban radio in 2007 with "Dying" and "Weh Dem A Do." Since then he has scored several nation-wide crossover hits including "I'm So Special," "Hold On" with Wyclef, and "Like I See It" with Rick Ross and Jah Cure, Most recently Mavado enlisted R&B heavyweight Ne-Yo for a remix of his smoking Dancehall single "I Know You Want Me." His current street bangers "Star Bwoy," "Peppa," and "Delilah" have been enjoying considerable success on Reggae stations and charts around the world.

"I thought it would be a good show to choose as the 'comeback' performance because there hasn't been a major stage show for the longest while in the US because of the revocation of artists' visas," says David 'Mavado' Brooks. "It also has the potential to be huge - the Roy Wilkins Park holds tens of thousands -so a lot of my fans will be able to take in the first performance, also instead of limiting it to a club or smaller indoor venue."

Beenie Man, whose nearly 30-year history in music has spawned numerous international hits and a Grammy award for Best Reggae artist, will collect his award at Reggae Rhythm & Blues, which also features velvet-voiced Reggae crooner Tarrus Riley, and Soca King Machel Montano in addition to Babyface Edmonds.

"Mavado and Beenie Man are two of Dancehall's biggest international stars," says Reggae Rhythm & Blues organizer Robert 'Bobby' Clarke, CEO of Irie Jam Media. "This will be Mavado's first U.S. show in 18 months, so I know music fans, especially the Dancehall crowd, are going to be coming from near and far to see him on September 4th."

The first annual Reggae, Rhythm & Blues Festival, featuring Kenny 'Babyface' Edmonds, Mavado, Machel Montano, and Tarrus Riley, will kick-off on Sunday, September 4th at Roy Wilkins Park in Jamaica, NY.
